Join us for an afternoon steeped in Cape Breton tradition as two of the region’s most respected musicians take the stage.
Donna Marie DeWolfe
Born and raised in River Tillard near Mabou, Donna Marie began playing the fiddle at just ten years old, guided by a long family tradition of music-makers. Her influences include Cape Breton icons like Shelly Campbell and Donald Angus Beaton, and her playing carries the unmistakable pulse of the island—bold, rhythmic, and full of heart. A regular at ceilidhs, dances, and festivals from Judique to Cheticamp, Donna Marie is a torchbearer for the living tradition of Cape Breton fiddle.
Troy MacGillivray
From Lanark, Nova Scotia, Troy is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist whose mastery of piano and fiddle has taken him around the world. With a music degree from St. FX and a master’s in ethnomusicology from the University of Limerick, Troy brings both scholarship and soul to his playing. He’s a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and multiple ECMA and Canadian Folk Music Awards. Whether accompanying or leading, his performances are grounded in heritage and elevated by technical brilliance.
Together on stage
Donna Marie and Troy share more than skill—they share a love for Cape Breton music and a deep respect for its roots. Their Sunday Matinée promises tight tunes, spontaneous moments, and a musical connection that speaks across generations.
